Meet Our Board of Directors
These five dedicated individuals work hard on your behalf.

The Berkshire County Retirement Board consists of five members. The first member, selected by the other four, is the Chairman of the Board. The second member is a member of the Berkshire County Advisory Council and is elected by a majority of the Council. The third and fourth members are elected by the membership. The fifth member is chosen by the other four members and shall not be an employee, retiree, or official of the retirement system.

 

Michael C. Ovitt - Chairman since October 2006, and member of the Berkshire County Retirement Board since June 1998.

 

Michael is a volunteer fireman and part-time police officer in the Town of Sheffield.  He was the Treasurer/Collector of the Town of Sheffield from May 1988 until June 2018.  Michael lives in Sheffield with his wife Lisa and 2 children.

 

Mark Bashara - Elected member of the Berkshire County Retirement Board since January 2017.

 

Mark is retired from the Town of Lanesborough where he was a member of the Police Department for 28 years, serving 12 years as Police Chief.  He has served on the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association as well as the Western Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association.  Mark resides in Lanesborough.

 

Karen T. Williams - Elected member of the Berkshire County Retirement Board since January 2018.

 

Karen is the elected Treasurer in the town of Stockbridge and the appointed Treasurer in the town of West Stockbridge.  She is certified as a Massachusetts Municipal Treasurer.  She is on the Board of Berkshire County Insurance Group and is a member of the Berkshire Retirement System Advisory Council as well as the Stockbridge Elderly and Disabled Committee.  Karen lives in Stockbridge and has two adult daughters. 

 

Paul Lisi, Jr. - Member of the Berkshire County Retirement Board since January 2016.

 

Paul is currently the Treasurer of the Town of Richmond as well as the Town Accountant for the Towns of Windsor and Egremont.  He is the President of the Berkshire County Retirement Advisory Board and the President of the Berkshire County Treasurers and Collectors Association.  Paul resides in Pittsfield.

 

Gerald S. Doyle, Jr. - Member of the Berkshire County Retirement Board for since 2003.

 

Gerry was Mayor of the City of Pittsfield from 1997 to 2001. He was a member of the Pittsfield City Council from 1983 to 1995, serving as Council President from 1996 to 1998. He currently works as support staff for Secretary of State William F Galvin’s Western Massachusetts office. Gerry is a lifelong resident of Pittsfield. He and his wife Beth have two children.

Advisory Council Member (3 years) - Paul Lisi, Jr.

Term:  January 1, 2019 – December 31, 2021

The Advisory Council Member is elected by the Treasurers on the Advisory Council

 

 

Elected Member (3 years) - Mark Bashara

Term:  January 1, 2020– December 31, 2022

The elected member is elected by the active and retired membership of the Berkshire County

Retirement System.

 

 

Elected Member (3 years) - Karen T. Williams

Term:  January 1, 2018 – December 31, 2020

The elected member is elected by the active and retired membership of the Berkshire County

Retirement System.

 

 

Appointed Member (5 years) - Gerald S. Doyle Jr

Term:  July 1, 2015 – June 30 2020

The Appointed Member is appointed by the other 4 Board members, and cannot be an active

or retired employee or official in any of the 46 units of the System
